Mumbai CM Congratulates Rohit On Spectacular Test Career!
Sharing his sentiments on social media platform X, the CM wrote, “It was a pleasure to interact with Rohit Sharma at Varsha. I congratulated him on an exceptional Test career and wished him continued success in his future endeavours.”
Wankhede Stadium Immortalises Rohit’s Legacy
In a fitting tribute to his monumental career, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced earlier that a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium will be named after Rohit Sharma.
Approved during the MCA’s Annual General Meeting on April 15, the Divecha Pavilion Level 3 has been rechristened the Rohit Sharma Stand, placing him alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ajit Wadekar, who also have stands dedicated to them. However, initially, the stand was to be inaugurated on May 13, but it has been rescheduled now due to India-Pak tensions.
An emotional Rohit expressed gratitude during the Mumbai T20 League inauguration, stating, “To have a stand named after me is surreal. When I began playing, I never imagined such an honour. It’ll be an overwhelming moment to see my name there, reflecting on everything that’s transpired since my debut.”
Rohit Sharma’s Stellar Career
Rohit’s retirement from Test cricket marks the culmination of an 18-year international journey that began in 2007. As India’s captain, he led the team to historic victories, including the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph and the 2025 Champions Trophy title. Rohit's leadership also saw India finish as runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2021-23 World Test Championship.
With 19,700 international runs across 499 matches, including 49 centuries and 108 fifties, Rohit stands as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer. His career highlights extend to being part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy-winning squads.
