After a week of suspension, the IPL 2025 is all set to resume soon. The tournament had been interrupted midway during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match, as security concerns arose amid the escalating India-Pakistan border tensions.
As the tournament is resuming within a few days, Sunil Gavaskar believes there's no room for entertainment, considering the recent tragic incident in the country
Gavaskar Asks For No Entertainment In IPL 2025
As the nation is going through a tough phase, the IPL was immediately called off due to the ongoing border tension. On April 22, Pakistani terrorists attacked the tourists in Pahalgam, and 26 innocent people lost their lives. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, leading to the suspension of the tournament midway through.
As the tournament is coming back to excite the people with some unmissable cricket action amidst the tough time, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has come up with a strong message. After the tragic incident, he believes the focus should be solely on the game, with no room for extra entertainment.
“What I would really like to see is these are the last few matches. I think we have had about 60 games or thereabouts. I think it is the last 15 or 16 games. I would sincerely... because of what has happened and some families have lost their near and dear ones, I would like all the show-sha baji that goes with it to not be there,” he said.
“Just the game to be played. Let there be crowd but no music. Let's not have the DJs screaming in the middle of an over. None of that. Let's just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. No dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones,” he added.
The Thrills Are Coming Back
After the unexpected halt, the tournament is resuming with a fiery clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As the foreign players have already departed, they are expected to return. The BCCI has placed the responsibility on the franchises to provide details on the return of players who had left for their home countries.
The remaining 13 group stage matches will be played across Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. As the knockout stage kicks off on May 29, the venues for the high-stakes matches are still under wraps. The grand finale is set for June 3, promising an epic showdown.
