Babar Azam Was At The Peak Of His Powers When England Last Toured Pakistan

Something has happened to Babar Azam in Test cricket, and no one has any definite answer to it. Once touted to break all records in Test cricket, Babar now struggles to score a fifty-plus score, showcasing his downfall in the game's longest format.

So much so, that voices have been raised to remove him from the Test squad for the upcoming English challenge. However, people have short-term memory, and they forget that the last time England toured Pakistan for a Test series, Babar was the main man and he racked up runs for fun against a quality English bowling attack.

England toured Pakistan on the back of stellar victories against New Zealand, South Africa and India. However, Pakistan were firm favourites to win the series, all thanks to Babar. Ironically, the series didn't pan out well for the home team, as they were whitewashed by the Ben Stokes-led Bazball side, but Babar was applauded for his brilliant performances throughout the series.

Babar turned Bradman against England in 2022

Just how Don Bradman used to dominate the bowlers in his days, Babar dominated the English attack in all three Test matches. In the first Test at the Rawalpindi Stadium, England piled on a mammoth 657 in their first innings.

In reply, Pakistan needed to make a statement and Babar did just that. He played with grit and determination and scored a magnificent 136 off 168 balls as Pakistan got closer to England's total. However, he failed to deliver in the second innings as Pakistan suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of a ruthless England side.

Trailing in the series, Pakistan needed to make a turnaround in the Multan Test, but the batting unit failed to deliver, except, Babar Azam. The home team were bundled out for a mere 202, and Babar, alone scored 75 off 95 deliveries.

With the series already lost, Pakistan came into the third Test to salvage some pride. However, that didn't happen as the Asian side suffered another defeat, but Babar once again stood tall with fifties in consecutive innings.

In 3 matches, he slammed 348 runs, at an average of 58.00, including 3 fifties and a solitary hundred. The King of Pakistan cricket, as they call him, was the lone warrior in the series with the bat, and Pakistan will hope that he can turn up once again when England land on the Pakistan shores for a 3-game series.
