The MA Chidambaram Stadium saw a strong performance from the Indian team, winning the match by 280 runs. While players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Rishabh Pant stood out with great performances, some important players in the Indian lineup didn't meet the expectations. Let’s take a look at three players who had a tough time in this match.

Rohit Sharma

Being a captain is difficult; it comes with criticism and praise. While India won the first Test, Rohit Sharma's performance as the team's captain was scrutinised. He didn’t make much of an impact in this match, scoring just six runs in the first innings and only five in the second. He was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed in the first and second innings, respectively.

Rohit has a solid overall record, with 4,148 runs in Test matches, including 12 centuries. However, his recent struggles against Bangladesh are concerning—he has scored only 44 runs in four innings against them, with a highest score of just 21. There’s extra pressure on him to perform, and his poor showing has raised concerns among fans and analysts alike.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli returned to the Test team after over eight months, and expectations were high for his comeback. However, his performance didn’t live up to the hype. He scored only six runs in the first innings and 17 runs in the second. Known for his stylish batting, Kohli appeared ready to make an impact but struggled against a disciplined bowling attack.

This year has been challenging for him, with a low average of 18.76 across all formats, marking his worst run in eight years in Tests. Fans and cricket experts hope he can bounce back soon, especially with important matches on the horizon.

Mohammed Siraj

Although the Chepauk pitch usually helps spin bowlers, it also gives some support to the fast bowlers. Unfortunately, Mohammed Siraj couldn’t take advantage of it. In the first innings, he did well, taking two wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs. However, in the second innings, he struggled and didn’t take any wickets in another ten overs.

His inconsistency might have cost India important chances to get wickets. With other fast bowlers competing for a spot in the team, Siraj really needs to improve, especially when the conditions are good for pace bowling. India will now face Bangladesh in the second Test match, starting on September 27 in Kanpur.
