Nitish Reddy was meant to show his credentials as one of India’s most promising young all-rounders in 2025. After an impressive IPL 2024 season, the Andhra cricketer entered the year full of optimism and promise.

But rather than cashing in on his success, Nitish struggled with injury that derailed his rhythm and stalled his development.

What started as a minor injury particularly early in 2025 morphed into an endless cycle of rehabilitation and injury recurrence.

Timeline of injuries for Nitish Reddy in 2025

January - Side strain

Nitish Reddy's trouble began early in January 2025, when he sustained a side strain injury during the 5-match home T20I series against England. He injured himself in a practice session after the first T20I and was unable to play in the rest of the series, and Shivam Dube took his place.

The all-rounder took significant time to recover, missing the Champions Trophy 2025. He eventually returned to play for SRH in IPL 2025.

July - Knee injury

After IPL 2025, Nitish Reddy flew to England for a 5-game Test series. After the 2nd and 3rd Test, he injured his knee in a gym session, leading to a ligament tear. The BCCI immediately flew him back home, and he was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the series. Again, Reddy found himself rehabilitating at CoE, and it cost him a place in the Asia Cup 2025.

October - Quadriceps injury

After a successful home Test series against the West Indies, Nitish Reddy joined the Indian team in Australia for the white-ball series. However, during the 2nd ODI at Adelaide, he suffered a quadriceps injury, which ruled him out of the 3rd ODI played at Sydney.

October - Neck spasm

To add to his concerning injury list, Nitish Reddy complained of a neck spasm, which forced BCCI to sideline him from the first 3 of the 5-game T20I series against Australia. This marks his 4th major injury in the first 10 months of the 2025 season alone.

Future uncertain for Nitish Reddy

These setbacks have done more than just keep him out of matches, they’ve interrupted momentum. At just 22 years old, Nitish Reddy had shown promise as a batting all-rounder.

He is being groomed as Hardik Pandya’s future replacement, especially in Test cricket. However, the knee injury stopped his Test progress, the quad strain halted his white-ball inclusion, and the neck issue added an unexpected complication.

Beyond the physical toll, the psychological and mental burden on a young person to be plagued by repeated injuries is immense. Reddy will be watching from the sidelines at a time when the T20 format offers him a platform, yet his body has said otherwise.

If he recovers well and avoids further setbacks, there’s still time to salvage his trajectory. But 2025 is becoming a year of what-ifs instead of landmark moments for Nitish Reddy.
