No one knows how to excel at the knockout stage of an ICC event better than Meg Lanning. Former Australia captain, with experience of two successful ICC Women's Cricket World Cup campaigns and five ICC Women's T20 World Cup titles, picked the key player for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup semifinal against Australia.

Meg Lanning backs Harman to shine in IND-W vs AUS-W

India will take on Australia in the second semifinal of the ongoing Women's ODI World Cup tomorrow at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Meg Lanning shared her thoughts on the match and predicted the key player for India in the recent episode of The ICC Review. According to Lanning, India will miss the service of injured opener Pratika Rawal, but India captain Harmanpreet Kaur would be "impossible to stop" if she gets going.

"For India I'm going to go with captain Harmanpreet Kaur. She's had a good tournament, but she's probably yet to really explode and dominate a game. And for me, that makes me a touch nervous because it feels like she's due to do that. And when she gets going, she's pretty impossible to stop so she's the key player for India."

For Australia, Meg Lanning chose Beth Mooney as their key player in the semifinal. During her chat with the host Nikhil Uttamchandani, Lanning said that Mooney's ability to adapt according to the situation would set the foundation for Australia.

"For Australia it has to be Beth Mooney as she can come in at any situation in the innings and adapt accordingly. If there's a really good foundation set, she's able to keep that momentum going. And we've also seen that if there's a couple of quick wickets, she's able to sort of work her way through those innings."

Lanning trusts Australia's depth for the clash against India

Speaking of India’s chances in the game in front of a cheering home crowd, Meg Lanning chose her side citing their “incredible depth”.

"I think Australia have just got incredible depth. They've shown throughout the tournament that they're not reliant on one or two players and even if they do lose some early wickets with the bat, there's some real big power towards the backend that can sort of get them out of different situations."

Meanwhile, in the first semifinal of the tournament, England and South Africa will meet today at Guwahati.
