In a significant development, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the third and final ODI of the ongoing series against India. While Australia brought Nathan Ellis back for Xavier Bartlett, India made two key changes, replacing Nitish Reddy and Arshdeep Singh wiith Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna, respectively.
Why India excluded Nitish Reddy from XI for 3rd ODI?
As revealed by BCCI, ace all-rounder Nitish Reddy was unavailable for selection after sustaining a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI of the series at Adelaide Oval. Currently, the BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his progress.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide and was subsequently unavailable for selection for the third ODI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him on a daily basis," the BCCI revealed.
List of Nitish Reddy's injuries
Nitish Reddy's injury has plagued his career in 2025. The promising seam-bowling all-rounder was impressive in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 before he sustained a side strain that sidelined him from the T20I series against England. Reddy's injury also affected his performance in the IPL, limiting his participation with the ball.
After recovering from the ligament injury, Nitish Reddy returned to competitive action in full throttle, eventually playing Test matches as a proper all-rounder during India's England tour. However, he further went on to sustain a grade-1 ligament injury which sidelined him from the final two Tests of the series. Now, as he has a fresh setback in the form of a quadriceps injury, it remains to be seen for how long he will remain on the sidelines. In his absence, Harshit Rana is playing as India's seam bowling all-rounder in the third ODI against Australia at the SCG.
