In a one-sided contest, New Zealand beat England by 5 wickets in the 2nd ODI held at Seddon Park in Hamilton. England collapsed to just 175 in the first inning after Blair Tickner's four-wicket-haul.
Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell’s half-centuries ensured New Zealand accomplished the chase in 33.1 overs to seal a commanding series win.
Tickner tears through England in ugly batting collapse
After being put to bat first, England had a horrendous start. They lost opener Ben Duckett early on, for just 1 run, caught by Tom Latham off Jacob Duffy, with only 3 runs on the board.
Jamie Smith (13) followed soon after, falling to Zakary Foulkes, leaving England struggling at 29/2.
Joe Root tried to steady the innings with a composed 25 off 34, but his dismissal to Blair Tickner triggered another collapse. Youngster Jacob Bethell (18) and captain Harry Brook (34) provided brief resistance, with Brook striking 3 fours and a six before falling to Mitchell Santner.
However, England’s middle order continued to crumble as Jos Buttler (9) and Sam Curran (17) failed to convert starts.
The only significant late fightback came from Jamie Overton, who smashed a quickfire 42 off 28 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, lifting England past 150.
However, Blair Tickner returned to wrap up the tail, finishing with 4/34. Nathan Smith and Santner offered solid support with 3 wickets combined as England were dismissed for 175 in just 36 overs, a below-par total on a tricky Hamilton surface.
New Zealand seal series after smooth chase
In the second inning, New Zealand had a shaky start that saw Will Young dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Jofra Archer. Regardless, the Kiwis regrouped impressively thanks to a composed partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.
Ravindra continued his golden run with a fluent 54 off 58 balls, stroking 7 boundaries and a six, while Williamson added 21 off 39 balls to stabilise the innings.
The pair added 63 runs for the second wicket before Archer returned to remove Rachin Ravindra with a clever delivery, breaking the stand.
England briefly clawed back as Adil Rashid trapped Tom Latham lbw for 2, and Archer picked up his third by dismissing Michael Bracewell for 5, leaving New Zealand at 118/5.
But the visitors had their hero in Daryl Mitchell, who contributed a responsible but aggressive knock of 56 from 59 balls, leading the chase with authority.
Captain Mitchell Santner then finished things in style, smashing an unbeaten 34 off just 17 deliveries, featuring 3 sixes and 2 fours. Their 59-run partnership helped New Zealand reach their target easily with 16.5 overs to spare.
For England, Jofra Archer was the only shining light, delivering outstanding figures of 3/23 in 10 overs, as the rest of the bowlers could not continue to apply pressure.
With that 5-wicket win, New Zealand have sealed the series with a 2-0 lead.
