In a major development, the proposed ODI series between India and Afghanistan is in jeopardy. As per a report by Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is finding it hard to squeeze the series in the limited window frame they have between the WTC Final and the tour of West Indies in July 2023.

The report states that the BCCI planned on scheduling the series between June 20 and 30, with the Indian squad leaving for the West Indies on July 7. However, with the Asia Cup schedule set to come out soon, and the big tournaments like the World Cup just around the corner, BCCI sources have stated that the players will be deprived of proper rest ahead of the crucial challenges that awaits them.

There are other possible reasons regarding the question marks for the series. BCCI's broadcast deal with Disney Star has ended and a new tender has not come out yet. Interim arrangements can be made, but will the BCCI get the right price of a full-fledged tender ahead of the bilateral series between the two nations is still a question to be asked.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) President will be in India for the IPL final on May 28, and the two boards will likely to have a discussion regarding the future of the series that is under a dark cloud.
