'There is No Line in the Sand': Nathan Lyon on His Future

One of the leading off-spinners of modern-day cricket, Australia's Nathan Lyon will play his fourth Ashes series on English soil next month, when The Ashes 2023 commences. Lyon, who is the eighth highest wicket-taker in Test cricket (482 wickets) has indicated that the bowler might return back to England in 2027 and have another crack at the urn.

​Lyon made his Test debut back in 2011 against Sri Lanka, and since then etched his name in record books for Australia.

Lyon, 35, speaking with AAP, also dwelled on his goal to win a Test series in India, apart from clinching the ICC World Test Championship Mace, when Australia meet Team India in the final on June 7. 

Interestingly, Australia's next Test tour of India will be in 2027. 

Here's what Lyon said

"There is no line in the sand. I am not saying I want to get so many wickets and then be calling it quits. It is still about me trying to get better each day, learning and really enjoying the game.

Winning in India has been achieved by Australian cricket teams before but it is still something I would love to be able to do. My dreams are to be able to win (the World Test Championship) in England and win in India."

Talking about the upcoming WTC Final, Lyon expects a good contest against India. Rohit Sharma and his team beat Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, 2-1. 

"I have enjoyed my games at The Oval. It is going to be a big challenge against India. They have superstars in their side but our squad is growing together and we are the closest squad we have ever been - on and off the field. We are really confident and so we should be."

The first Ashes Test begins on June 16 when both England and Australia resume their age-old rivalry at Edgbaston.
