Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) experienced disappointment once again this year as they were unable to secure a spot in the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In their final league match against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB suffered a six-wicket defeat, leading to their elimination from the tournament.

Despite the loss, RCB's captain Virat Kohli showcased exceptional performance by becoming the third player to score back-to-back centuries in the IPL, following the achievements of Jos Buttler and Shikhar Dhawan. However, Shubman Gill became the fourth player to accomplish this feat, ultimately leading to RCB's devastating defeat on their home ground.

On his Instagram account, Virat Kohli, who has scored seven centuries in the IPL, urged the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team to maintain their spirits and bounce back strongly in the upcoming season.

Faf du Plessis, the captain of a different IPL team, expressed a straightforward opinion stating that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did not deserve to qualify for the playoffs because they were not among the top teams in the competition.

Du Plessis, who is currently leading the race for the Orange Cap in IPL 2023, emphasized that although RCB had some exceptional individual performances, they struggled to function cohesively as a team.

"If we look at ourselves, we will be honest in saying that we weren't one of the best teams in the competition. We were lucky that there were some really good performances throughout, but as a whole, we don't deserve to be in the playoffs. We tried hard tonight but fell short," said the Proteas player in an interview.
