Vijay Shankar first created a lot of buzz when he was selected in the 2019 World Cup ahead of Ambati Rayudu. He failed to make an impact in that World Cup and got injured midway and went away from the limelight after that. The injuries didn't help his cause either but he has roared back in style in the IPL 2023.
Shankar has played some breathtaking knocks for GT in this season and in the game against RCB, the last league game of IPL 2023, he played another fine knock. He got to his fifty with a humongous six over long on that hit the roof of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. It travelled 110-metre away but departed on the very next over as he ended up pulling a shortish delivery to Virat Kohli at deep mid-wicket.
Though Vijay Shankar departed, Gill carried on and got his second century in a row to take GT over the line. RCB with this loss has been eliminated.
