Tamim Iqbal returns as Bangladesh skipper for England ODIs

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is set to make a return to the format for the upcoming home series against England. The cricketer last featured in a 50-over contest for his country back in August 2022 against Zimbabwe.

Iqbal was ruled out of Bangladesh squad thereafter owing to a groin injury, which also prompted him to miss the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

Bangladesh announces squad for ODI series against England

On Thursday (February 16), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the Bangladesh squad for the first two ODIs against England.

Iqbal, who turned up for Khulna Tigers in the recently-concluded BPL 2023 season, has been called into the national side for the high-profile home series. Apart from the veteran, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam also earned a return into the ODI setup.

Additionally, Towhid Hridoy found a spot in the expanded squad after a stellar BPL 2023 season and is expected to make his international debut against England next month.

The England team will arrive in Bangladesh on February 24 and is slated to play three ODIs and three T20I matches. The fixtures will be set between March 1 and March 14 across Mirpur and Chittagong.
