BCCI releases list of players for WIPL Auction; Harman, Mandhana, Verma in highest bidding bracket

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has released dates for the Women's Premier League and its auctions. As per the latest breaking, WPL will be played between March 4 to March 26, 2023. As per the board, a total of 419 players will go under the hammer at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13. 

Indian superstars such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Shafali Verma have put their names in the highest bidding bracket, which is INR 50 lakhs.

The other players who are the highest bidding bracket are Australia's Ellyse Perry, the World No. 1 ranked bowler Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver, New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine, Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin.

It is understood that the players were asked to fill the bidding bracket at their own virtue. Out of the 409 players, 24 players have put their names for the highest bracket, and 30 will have a base price of INR 40 lakhs. 

As per the league’s rules, the five franchises can only buy a maximum of 90 players, with 30 overseas among them.

The list announced by BCCI tells 246 Indian cricketers have signed up for the WPL auction. There are 163 overseas who have put their names and 8 from Associate countries. 

As per the league’s rules, the five franchises can only buy a maximum of 90 players, with 30 overseas among them. 

Earlier in the week, the WPL committee announced that a team could have a maximum of 18 members, out of which six can be foreigners. A team can play five overseas players in their Playing XIs if one of the five is from Associate Nation.
