The stylish India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set and ready to rejoin the Mumbai squad ahead of their face-off against Goa after he missed the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 due to acute gastroenteritis. He was taken to the hospital after the Mumbai vs Rajasthan Super League match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The southpaw is fresh off his maiden ODI century, which came against South Africa in the series decider in Visakhapatnam earlier this month and will be crucial in taking Mumbai to the knockouts of the List A competition.
Jaiswal to bolster a formidable Mumbai line-up
Thanks to Rohit Sharma's availability in the first two matches, alongside the star names like Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan, Shardul Thakur and Tushar Deshpande, Mumbai have gone past both Sikkim and Uttarakhand in emphatic fashion, chasing 237 in 30.3 overs vs Sikkim and winning the second game by 51 runs to stay at the top of Elite C.
Rohit, who scored 155(94) in the opening match, was part of the squad only for the first two matches and will need a replacement, where Jaiswal would slot right in against Goa on December 31, after he joins them on Monday evening, i.e., after the fixture against Chhattisgarh, as confirmed by Sporstar.
He could further play more matches against Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and so on, depending upon whether he is picked in the India squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand from January 11.
The batter has been in some good form recently, having scored 67 and 156 in his last Ranji Trophy appearance in November to go along with some solid international performances against West Indies and South Africa. He also got a 101(50) in Mumbai's win over Haryana in the SMAT Super League run-chase of 238 runs a couple of weeks ago.
