Why Phangiso's action wasn't picked up at the start of tournament: Faf du Plessis

The SA20 2023 league is nearing its business end with the final group games taking place today and tomorrow. Faf du Plessis, the leading run-getter of the season, has led the Joburg Super Kings brilliantly and have their place in the semi-finals secured.

However, the suspension of Aaron Phangiso is a bit of a setback for the franchise. Du Plessis, ahead of their final group match against MI Cape Town this evening, lashed out at tournament officials for not picking up a fault in Phangiso's action before the start of the tournament.

The 39-year-old picked up 10 wickets from six matches, including two 4-wicket hauls for his club. The Kings have replaced the left-arm spinner with Kyle Simmonds.

As per Sowetan Live, the former South African captain said that the bowler has already started his rehabilitation and is looking forward to playing next season.

Here's what du Plessis said

"It’s unfortunate, obviously Phangiso bowled for a long time with that action, I suppose that question would go back to the lead-up to this tournament, why wasn’t it picked up then? You don’t want stuff like that happening in the tournament,"

An independent SA20 Bowling Action Panel found the former South African player's bowling action to be non-compliant, and suspended him from further taking active participation in the event.
