Rain had the final say in the 24th match of the SA20 2023 as an eventual damp squib meant that Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings go back to their hotels with shared points.

Roy makes up for the rainy day

Albeit rain had the last laugh but not before Jason Roy entertained fans with his enthralling half-century.

After opting to bowl first, the Super Kings faced a stern test as the Paarl Royals openers Roy and Jos Buttler got to the action straightaway.

In no mood to spare anybody, the duo smashed 53 runs in three and a half overs. While Buttler was castled by Gerald Coetzee, it meant nothing for Roy, who continued with his usual business of demolition.

At the time of strategic break, the Royals were 85/2 after nine overs and rain announced its arrival for the first time in the game.

It did not take much time for the weather to clear up as it was again raining boundaries.

In the 15th over, Romario Shepherd sent Roy packing for a 42-ball 61. Not much later, it started pelting as the play, unfortunately, could never resume.

The umpires called off the match with the Royals being at 131/4 after the end of 15 overs of the first innings.

Brief scores

Paarl Royals: 131/4 (15)

Jason Roy 61 (42), Jos Buttler 23 (11);
Donavon Ferreira 1-5 (2), Gerald Coetzee 1-24 (2
