Reports are rife that charismatic Indian batter Shubman Gill will lead the national team in its upcoming five-match Test tour of England. Soon after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Tests earlier this month, Gill’s name was floated as a strong candidate for the leadership role, although no official confirmation has been made yet.
As the cricketer braces himself for the resumption of IPL 2025 and a potential captaincy gig for Team India, Gill was recently seen in public, where his brief interaction, or lack thereof, with a fan drew unexpected attention online.

Shubman Gill drew unexpected attention online on Monday, May 12. In a recent viral video, the cricketer can be seen ignoring a fangirl’s plea of posing for a picture together as he walked right past here alongside his luggage and security.
At one point, the girl was even heard vehemently requesting by saying: “Sir please sir ek photo”
The incident sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many fans sympathising with the girl and subtly questioning the cricketer’s seemingly indifferent response.
Nonetheless, Shubman Gill is currently leading the Gujarat Titans franchise in the IPL 2025 season before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the tournament citing India’s security and border tensions with Pakistan. The Titans also became one of the first sides to resume training over the weekend.
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans franchise is currently placed at the top of the IPL 2025 points table with eight wins and three defeats from 11 matches.
Upon becoming India’s next Test captain, he will also lead the national team in their upcoming five-match tour of England starting in mid-June next month.
