Shubman Gill's rampage helps India humiliate New Zealand to seal the series

It was the day of India's brightest superstar Shubman Gill who brought up his maiden T20I hundred at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad to seal the series 2-1 against New Zealand after beating them by 168 runs.

Gill's day out at Motera as he does the business

After choosing to bat first on what skipper Hardik Pandya felt was a genuine batting wicket, India lost opener Ishan Kishan early in the second over to Michael Bracewell. But surely, it wasn't something the Men in Blue will regret as after that it was just pure hitting from the line-up.

Rahul Tripathi was on fire as he didn't hold himself back banging three sixes to score 44 from just 22 balls. He was accompanied by Gill, who started as soon as he arrived hitting occasional boundaries in between. In the ninth over, Tripathi departed with the scoreboard showing 87 for the loss of two wickets.

However, all-rounder Pandya arrived at the crease and saw a spectacular inning at the other end. The Punjab-born Gill played the knock of his life thrashing the Kiwi bowlers left, right and centre to bring his century off just 53 balls. By the end of the innings, the right-hander remained unbeaten on 126 striking whopping seven sixes and twelve fours.

His ton helped India post a gigantic 234 on the board as apart from Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell looked ordinary with most of them conceding runs above 10 per over.

Captain Pandya does the formality

It was never going to be easy to chase a stiff target of 235, the visitors never looked in the game as the demoralised factor was clearly visible in the second innings. They lost one after the other as even before they could blink an eye, the score was 7 for 4.

The top order was in the pavilion thanks to Hardik and Arshdeep Singh who killed their hopes to bat through. Some counter-attacking by Daryl couldn't really help their cause as the wickets fell down at the other shore.

Moreover, the lower order felt more like a visitor who tried to do what the preceding batters did for their side. Nonetheless, it was just the formality with the ball as Indian fielders grabbed some wonderful catches completely decimating their opponents' hope.

Pandya bagged four whereas Arshdeep, Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi recorded two wickets each to their name as BlackCaps surrendered on a paltry score of 66, falling short by a humongous margin of 168 runs.
