Surya Kumar Yadav is a bonafide star in the T20Is, however, in the One-Day Internationals (ODI) is yet to make his mark for India. In the recently concluded 3-ODI series against New Zealand, Yadav managed just 45 runs, much to the disappointment of fans and critics.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer after the Indore ODI expressed his views on SKY's batting in the 50-overs format, which he found baffling. Ranked No.1 in the ICC T20I Rankings for Batters, Yadav is playing in the absence of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are permanent members of the playing XI.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer explained reasons behind SKY's failure in ODIs.

Here's what Jaffer said

“It is very baffling. I can understand why it has happened. Suryakumar Yadav is just playing in that T20 mode in his mind. As the game gets shorter, you need to take lot more risks. He’s used to that, and his batting generally is like that. In the 50-over format, you don’t need to take that many risks.

I think he’ll probably get back and reflect on what he did wrong, and I am sure he has it in him to excel in this format also. The time off (from ODIs) will help him to become better in this format also.”

Appointed deputy to Hardik Pandya for the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand, Yadav will look to enthral audiences once again in his much-loved format starting Friday.
