After sustaining a thumb injury in the second ODI against Bangladesh, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the first Test to be played in Chattogram from 14th December. The call on his participation in the second Test will be taken in due time to ensure he undergoes rehabilitation and fully recovers.

In Sharma's spot, batter Abhimanyu Easwaran has been called in after putting up a good show in the A series against Bangladesh preceding this one.

What BCCI mentioned in the statement

"He has been advised appropriate management for this injury and will not be available for the first Test against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team will take a call on his availability for the second and final Test at a later stage."

On top of that, KL Rahul has been handed with the responsibility of leading the side along with veteran Cheteshwar Pujara as vice-captain.
