India's last international trophy came back in 2013 under former captain MS Dhoni's leadership. The county has since been devoid of global success, despite winning multiple Asia Cups and bilateral trophies.

Even Virat Kohli's dominant white-ball side could not earn India an ICC trophy, which continued under current skipper Rohit Sharma in the last T20 World Cup 2022.

Team India's latest World Cup outing was marred with selection issues and policies that led many former cricketers to lash out at the board and management.

Former India player Mohammad Kaif, speaking on Amazon Prime, warned the Indian side to focus more on the upcoming 2023 World Cup and stop experimenting too much, citing Bhuvneshwar Kumar's example.

Here's what Kaif stated

"Why is Bhuvneshwar Kumar not in the squad, I have no clue. He’s a good bowler, but not part of the squad. In the search for new players, we are losing out on the old ones. There’s a saying: in search of diamonds, we lost the gold,

"You had good players in the squad so this shouldn’t be the case. If you’re backing someone, please do it nicely. The preparation starts from here, there’s no time for experiments. The months will pass, and suddenly you’ll find yourself approaching the World Cup. So, you decide on the players and keep backing them."

According to reports, the BCCI in a hush-hush meeting recently, consulted Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and other senior members about their plans for World Cup 2023 in India.
