England's Nat Sciver might return to vice-captaincy role after West Indies tour

England's star all-rounder Nat Sciver could very well make a return to her vice-captaincy role after a mental-health break from cricket. She last played in The Hundred for Trent Rockets but subsequently pulled out of the tournament and took and extended break to prioritise her mental wellbeing.

England Women's Director of Cricket Jonathan Finch spoke about Sciver's potential return to the leadership role and star pacer Katherine Brunt's exclusion from the ODI squad for the West Indies tour.

Finch stated that Brunt's exclusion had to do with her not playing a match since the last The Hundred tournament and building up match intensity.

Finch speaks about Sciver's return

"Our main thing with any player is to ensure that when they're in the England environment, they're comfortable and they enjoy doing what they do, if Nat is keen to go back into a leadership position after West Indies, we will ensure that we can make that happen. But it has to be right for her."

"We back her 100 per cent in doing that; she's very well respected in the group, but we don't rush people coming back in, and we're not going to take things off the table because that would be disrespectful to her. But that is a possibility, for sure."

Finch on Katherine Brunt

"I think when you've got someone like Katherine, who is still one of your premier cogs in your white-ball game and has her experience and what she's brought to the game and the fact that she's spanned different eras, you don't put her under pressure to make those decisions."

"The strongest point I made to Katherine is that I want her to go out having enjoyed her last period of cricket and not to be defined on whether you win a Commonwealth gold, whether we win the Ashes next summer, whether we win the World Cup. Actually, go out and enjoy the experience. Because Katherine Brunt's experience is not defined by what goes on in the last six months of what she does."

"When she makes that decision, we've got some bloody good bowlers coming through. She's paved the way a little bit for those players to emulate what she's done."
