Even after a genuinely decent batting effort against New Zealand in the first ODI at Auckland, the Indian side had to taste defeat after a mind-blowing partnership between Kane Williamson and Tom Latham

India posted 306 on the board riding on the half-century knocks from skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill but it took a responsible innings from right-hander Shreyas Iyer who smashed 80 to take them past 300 run mark.

The right-hander expressed how he maintains a positive approach even when he is not performing at his best. He further stated how he keeps his fitness levels in check so that he is able to face the pressure of back-to-back games.

“My approach is always optimistic. I don't like thinking too much about the future. I concentrate on what's in my hands, which is training and as back-to-back games are happening, I want to ensure that my fitness level is very good. My mindset is to keep performing consistently and be in the present,"

His point was that he believes in not listening to people from outside and instead focus on being in his zone.

“Players will keep coming and leaving, the consistency is going to matter. So that is my mindset now. Things keep changing, everyone's career sees ups and downs. So, I just keep myself motivated in all situations and I just turn a deaf ear when people are talking outside. I just try to be in my zone and that is what helps me.”

Iyer will next be seen playing for India against New Zealand in the second ODI at Hamilton on 27th November.
