New Zealand, ahead of the third and final T20I against India, received the unfortunate news that skipper Kane Williamson had pulled out of the match following a prior medical appointment. Fast bowler Tim Southee will take over the reins from Williamson on Tuesday at Napier.

Middle-order batter Mark Chapman has been called to cover for the prolific scorer. Williamson, who scored 61 runs in New Zealand's 65-run loss in the second T20I on Sunday, will regroup with the side ahead of the scheduled One-Day International (ODI) series commencing November 25.

According to Stuff.NZ, head coach Gary Stead, speaking with the media, confirmed the same.

"Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule. The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland."

Under stand-in captain Hardik Pandya, India gained an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the three-match series, winning the Mount Maunganui T20I after the first match in Wellington was abandoned due to rain.
