Tasmania secured a six-wicket victory over Queensland in Match 5 of the Australia Domestic One-Day Cup 2022-23 on Friday (September 30) at Brisbane.

Riley Meredith restricts Queensland to a below-par total

Invited to bat first, Queensland had a horrid start, as their skipper Usman Khawaja (13) and Marnus Labuschagne (10) were dismissed in quick successions. The in-form Tom Rogers then sent Matt Renshaw (10) back to the hut as well.

It was a peach of a delivery from the tearaway pacer, Riley Meredith to secure a breakthrough in the form of Michael Neser (3), which left Queensland stuttering at 81/6. Afterwards, the contributions from Max Bryant (26) and Xavier Bartlett (23) stabilized the team. The pacer Mark Steketee hit 35* to help Queensland post a total of 164 on the board.

Meredith finished with fantastic figures of 5/26, and secured his maiden five-for in List-A cricket.

Ben McDermott propels Tasmania to a victory

Chasing a target of 165, Tasmania openers Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott were clinical with their strokeplay to provide a stable platform for the middle-order.

The duo added 94 runs for the first wicket, before Jewell was dismissed by Gurinder Sandhu for 43 off 37 balls. Nevertheless, McDermott continued his momentum to contribute 70 off 83 balls, laced with 10 fours and a six.

Then, Jake Dooran remained unbeaten on 36 off 52, while Beau Webster (15*) finish the game with a six for Tasmania in the 32nd over.
