Legendary Australian cricketer David Boon has been appointed as the chairman of Cricket Tasmania after he was elected following a board meeting. Tim Scott has also been appointed as his deputy.

The 61-year-old, current ICC match referee, also a board member from 2014, will take over from Andrew Gaggin, who hung up his boots at the beginning of this month.

Boon was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2017, worked with Cricket Australia as a selector, and will now ply his trade as the head of the state.

The former right-hander retired from international cricket in 1999 and has been associated with cricket in one way or another. He played cricket for Tasmania from 1978-79 and then got his Australia call-up in 1984.

Scoring 7422 runs at an average of 43.65, Boon played 107 Test matches to score his 21 centuries. Also playing in 181 ODI games, he scored 5964 runs in his decade-long career.
