County Championship 2022 | Division Two Round-Up, September 5

The 2022 County Championship resumed on Monday, September 5 and a total of three Division Two fixtures were played across three different venues in England. At the end of the opening day of action, here is a look at the high points from each of those three matches: 

Derbyshire vs Durham  

Invited to bat first, Derbyshire skittled out for 306 runs in 95.2 overs when the stumps were taken on Day 1. 

Leus du Plooy had another good day at the office as he charted 82 runs off 124 balls and came out to be the top-run scorer for Falcons in the first innings. Harry Came also played a solid knock of 78 runs, studded with five boundaries and two sixes. 

Anuj Dal (56) and Brooke Guest (33) were the other two who embraced the double-digit figures for Derbyshire. On the bowling front, Chris Rushworth and Ben Raine picked up a three-wicket haul each for Durham.

Worcestershire vs Glamorgan

Worcestershire, after opting to bat first, piled up 285 runs for the loss of seven wickets on an opening day against a high-flying Glamorgan.

Gareth Roderick and Ed Barnard both played sensational knocks, with the latter of the two finding himself unbeaten at 88 off 222 before stumps. Barnard, meanwhile mustered 75 runs from 113 deliveries, including 11 boundaries. 

Tim van der Gugten and James Harris were the picks of the bowlers for Glamorgan. While Gugten picked up three wickets and conceded just 42 runs in his 20 overs, Harris got a couple of braces in his 18 overs spell.

Nottinghamshire vs Leicestershire 

Leicestershire won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their bowlers justified the decision by bowling out Division Two leaders for just 201 runs in 61.3 overs.

However, what followed after that was nothing less than embarrassment for the visitors as they folded up for meagre 93 runs with opener Sam Evan staying not out for 50. None of their remaining nine batters could touch the two-digit figure. 

Nottinghamshire, at the time of the closing, were 15 without loss in their second innings and currently enjoys the lead of 123 runs.
