PUMA Cricket has pledged to support former West Indies speedster Winston Benjamin in providing cricketing equipment’s to budding Caribbean cricketers.

On Friday, August 12, PUMA Cricket announced the same on their social media accounts.

Plea heard after seeking help from Sachin Tendulkar

Earlier this month, the former cricketer had sought help from all-time great Sachin Tendulkar. He also thanked former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin for assisting him in his cause earlier.

In an interview with reporter Vimal Kumar, Benjamin said:

“Mr Tendulkar, could you assist me if you were in my position? He (Azharuddin) sent some equipment. Congratulations Azhar! And thank you very much for your assistance. Stay in touch. I don’t want 20000 US dollars and all I want is somebody to say ‘here is some equipment- 10-15 bats.’ So that, I can give them to the youngsters.”

The story so far

Benjamin, now 57, played 21 Tests and 85 ODIs for West Indies between the years 1986 and 1995. Snaring 161 international wickets in the process, the ex-pacer has been coaching school kids in Antigua these days.

Notably, this is not the first time German-based PUMA had extended their support towards cricketers. Back in 2021, they provided brand new shoes to Zimbabwe players after hearing a heartfelt request by ‘The Chevrons’ batter Ryan Burl.
