Canterbury Kings vs Auckland Aces | Match 25 Preview, Predictions, Fantasy XI

Canterbury Kings will go head-to-head against Auckland Aces on Tuesday at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Currently, Canterbury is placed second, with 20 points from seven matches, while Auckland is in fourth place with 16 points from the same number of matches as Canterbury played.

They met each other earlier in the 20th match of the tournament where the Kings from Canterbury showed the Aces how to chase a target effortlessly as they hunted down a target of 168 runs with 13 balls to spare. Thanks to Cam Fletcher who rode the Aces attack and came on top with his unbeaten match-winning half-century. Henry Shipley was not far away from his support as he finished the game with a massive six over backward square leg region.

Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, and Matt Henry will be back to join the Kings squad after a crunching series against visiting Bangladesh. Canterbury will be ecstatic to see their international stars back which will not only bolster their line-up but also their confidence going into the business end of the tournament.

On the other hand, Louis Delport is added back to the squad but we don't see him playing in the next contest as the Aces will not tinker with their squad which is fresh from their heist against Otago. Auckland from the position they were at had no right to win the game, but Sean Solia’s brave knock made that happen.

It will be interesting to see whether Canterbury tries to push for a home final or Auckland pulls down Wellington to gain the all-important third spot.

Pitch Report

The Hagley Oval pitch is fresh from a Test match against Bangladesh where the ball swung like a banana. But since it is a short format the pitch will help the batters for sure and has an average score of 170 batting first. The seamers will have some assistance throughout the match. The captain who wins the toss should bat first without a second thought.

Weather Conditions

According to forecasts, there will be no rain, and will be clear throughout the match.

BBL 2021-22: Mitchell Marsh's masterclass hands Perth Scorchers comfortable win

Perth Scorchers rode on another Mitchell Marsh’s masterclass with the bat to clinch an easy win by 6 wickets against Brisbane Heat in Melbourne on Monday. Chasing 156 in 20 overs, the Scorchers were off to a decent start with openers Kurtis Patterson and Josh Inglis putting up 45 for the first wicket. But the Perth team then lost a couple of wickets in quick succession after both the openers were sent back in the hut and the side was reduced to 48/2 in the seventh over. Marsh along with Colin Munro then took the onus and provided the much-needed resistance with a partnership of 84 runs for the third wicket. The stand was eventually broken after Swepson removed Marsh for a 34-ball 59 while Munro was also sent back in the hut soon for 24 off 28. But that didn’t really cause much of a problem as Ashton Turner and Aaron Hardie anchored the side over the line without losing any further wickets. Swepson was the pick of the bowlers after he returned with figures of 2/19 in 4 overs. Earlier, in the day, Brisbane also had a decent start to the proceedings as Max Bryant and Chris Lynn scored 44 runs for the first wicket. Bryant did the bulk of the scoring during the partnership but Lynn’s departure for 7 off 11 was followed by a fall of some more wickets and Brisbane were reduced to 94/4. Bryant was eventually sent back in the hut for a 56-ball 81 which included four maximums and seven fours during the course. Brisbane were in a spot of bother after Bryant was dismissed but Peirson’s cameo of an unbeaten 31 that came in 19 deliveries helped them put 155/7 in 20 overs on the board. "Nice to be back playing some cricket, thoroughly enjoyed that one. Really proud of the group and I thought it was nice time (power surge) to get some momentum and nice to get a few away. Wherever (on playing the finals) we play it's gonna be great fun,” Marsh said after the match.

BBL 11 | Aggressive Adelaide Strikers qualify for finals after all-round performance

Adelaide Strikers defeat Sydney Sixers by eight wickets on Monday 17 January at their home ground Oval. They earned full points to qualify for the finals action and now stand at the fourth spot in the league table with 28 points from 14 games. Chasing a decent total of 162 runs, Strikers were never put in a spot of bother owing to two standout performances of Matt Renshaw and Ian Cockbain who scored 50 off 31 and 71 off 42 balls respectively to win the game with 15 balls remaining. Opener Renshaw was lucky to survive a string of edges early on but then capitalise on the save to score a quick 50, to take Sixers out of the game. The visiting team would have thought that they could get the game in control after Renshwa’s departure, but they were dealt another blow in the form of Ian Cockbain. Cockbain, who joined the Strikers on 13 January, belted the Sixers out of play, punishing them all over the ground. The English recruit raked up his first half century for the franchise with exuberant strokes over all parts of the ground. This innings would put a lot of faith in the abilities of the right hander, after he played a grafters role on debut, seeing the game through and earning Strikers’ valuable points in his first game. Earlier in the day, Fawad Ahmed and Peter Siddle made sure that they cut Sixers’ wings whenever they had a bit of momentum by picking up wickets in a bunch. Sixers were in the game till the 13th over of their first innings, before the leggie picked up two wickets in two balls. He removed a well set Jack Edwards for 34 and in the very next ball dismissed Daniel Hughes. However, a tremendous attacking innings from Justin Avendano turned the tides for Sixers as he notched up 52 off 29 balls. The scoreboard would have surely looked a little worse if it weren’t for Peter Siddle’s back to back wickets in the final over the game. He removed Avendano and Sean Abbot in the fourth and the fifth ball of the over to limit damage. The final game of the group stage for the Strikers marks a tremendous overhaul to their campaign winning four out of their four remaining games to get into the finals.
