Mark Chapman tests COVID positive, Worker roped in for Netherlands ODIs

New Zealand batsman Mark Chapman has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match white-ball series against the Netherlands after testing COVID-19 positive.

Chapman tested positive via a Rapid Antigen Test in Auckland after waking up with mild symptoms. Head coach Gary Stead confirmed the development upon arrival in Mount Maunganui. However, the remainder of the squad are unaffected and will continue following Covid protocols and completing their daily health checks, according to an NZC release.

Left-hand batsman George Worker has been roped in as Chapman's replacement for the ODI series. Meanwhile, Worker will link up with the squad ahead of training on Monday. He has played 10 ODIs and two T20Is for the Black Caps but has not featured in an international match since taking the field in Dubai against Pakistan in November 2018.

"It's really unfortunate for Mark and we're all really feeling for him at this time. He did the right thing in following the health guidelines and getting tested when he did", said Stead.

Left-hand batsman George Worker has been roped in as Chapman's replacement for the ODI series. Worker, who last played an ODI for New Zealand in 2018, will link up with the squad ahead of training on Monday.

Adding further, "It's an exciting time for George to be back with the Black Caps and he thoroughly deserves his call up following his strong form in the Ford Trophy", he said.

New Zealand will begin the ODI campaign against the Netherlands in Mount Maunganui on March 29, while the second and third matches, on April 2 and 4, are scheduled to be played in Hamilton. However, the one-off T20I between the two teams was abandoned due to rain in Napier.
