India had a disastrous start to the second day of the ongoing Test match against New Zealand in Pune. The hosts resumed their innings from 16 for one before a sensational spell from Mitchell Santner jolted them with massive wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. The hosts sank further as off-spinner Glenn Phillips sent Yashasvi Jaiswal packing with a ripper.
The incident occurred during the 27th over of India's first innings when Jaiswal was batting alongside Rishabh Pant to bail India out of trouble. However, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham's decision to bring Glenn Phillips into the attack worked wonders as the off-spinner removed Jaiswal with his wily spin bowling.
After conceding two singles off his first three deliveries, Phillips came around the wicket and tossed the ball up. As Jaiswal tried to play a defensive shot, the ball turned sharply, taking the outside edge of his bat.
Experienced cricketer Daryl Mitchell made no mistake, taking a simple catch in the first slip. Thus Jaiswal, who became the first Indian batter to slam 1000 Test runs this year, departed for 30 runs in the Pune Test.
India Lose Half Of Their Side In Quick Time
After dismissing Jaiswal, Glenn Phillips castled Rishabh Pant with a skiddy delivery in the 31st over. At the time of writing, India were 92 for five, with Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja batting on 10* and 4*, respectively. With only five wickets in hand, India have lost the momentum, with New Zealand claiming the driving seat in the Pune Test.
