UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals strive for their maiden victory in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 after losing their respective opening games of the season in a promising encounter on Monday (February 26) in Bangalore. 

While the Capitals lost their repeat clash against last year's winners, Mumbai Indians (MI), on the opening day of the competition, the Warriorz suffered the same fate in a thrilling battle against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). A win is thus critical for both sides to get on board early in the five-team annual T20 carnival.

UP Warriorz 

The Warriorz would've been livid to have messed up a great opportunity to win their first game of the WPL 2024. Especially since they missed out on multiple situations to completely snatch the game away from the opposition. 

The Warriorz managed to reduce RCB to 54/3 but allowed them to recover to 157/6 despite strong spells from Grace Harris (1/22), Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/24) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/26).

Then even though healthy contributions from the middle-order pairing of Harris (38) and Shweta Sehrawat (31) pushed them close to the winning post, the Warriorz failed to score the 11 runs they required off the last over of the innings, losing the game by two. 

Delhi Capitals 

The Capitals would feel just as frustrated and annoyed as they ran toe-to-toe with their Mumbai counterparts but stumbled on the last ball of the game, conceding the five runs required after a six from MI's new match-winner, S Sajana. 

Nevertheless, the Capitals could also take out some positives from the game in the form of young pacer Arundhati Reddy (2/27) and overseas tweaker Alice Capsey (2/23) in the second half.

Capsey had a terrific game, having also smashed an enterprising 75 off 53 balls in the first innings, which was ably supported by captain Meg Lanning (31) and experienced Indian player Jemimah Rodrigues (42) to reach an imposing score of 171/5.
