Having tasted five consecutive defeats at the beginning of the previous season, the famed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to a winning start to the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Saturday (February 24) versus the UP Warriorz.

Facing up against the Warriorz at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, captain Smriti Mandhana & company thwarted Alyssa Healy's spirited bandwagon and came out triumphant in another thrilling clash of the tournament.

RCB managed to pip the Warriorz by just two runs in one more last-ball finish of WPL 2024 with stand-out contributions from middle-order player Sabbhineni Meghana, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh and Sobhana Asha giving them an upper hand in the riveting contest.

RCB Delighted After A Winning Start Over Warriorz

Placed in a dire state at 49/3 in the first-innings, RCB required Meghana and Ghosh to stitch together a great partnership which revived their fortunes against a Warriorz side that threatened to run away with the game.

While Meghana played a measured knock of 53 off 44 balls, Ghosh smashed her way to 62 from 37 deliveries. The two players allowed RCB to overcome trouble waters and propel to a competitive total of 157/6 in their 20 overs.

During the chase, the UP Warriorz stumbled against Asha's superlative display with the ball. The leg-spinner bagged a spectacular fifer, conceding just 22 runs off her quota of 4 overs to derail the Warriorz's run quest.

The game, however, was saved for the RCB by their heroic Australian spinner Sophie Molineux, who defended the 11 runs required off the 20th over and kept the Warriorz down to 155/7 by the close of the innings.
