Lahore Qalandars' disappointing run in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) continued on Saturday (February 24) as they suffered their fourth loss of the tournament to Karachi Kings following a last-ball thriller at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The Qalandars led by Shaheen Afridi fought hard until the final over of the game but it was the Kings who held their nerves for that much longer and clinched a memorable victory on the last ball of their fantastic run-chase.

Defending a stiff target of 176, the Qalandars managed to restrict the Kings to 175 until the 19.4 over mark of the second half. Then a dramatic instance followed as pacer Haris Rauf took a superb catch after lower-order batter Hasan Ali miscued an attempted big shot but also ended up injuring himself while falling on his head.

Haris Rauf Suffers Injury Despite Terrific Catch

Rauf appeared in excruciating pain with the blow off the turf and required some immediate medical attention and concussion checks before being taken off the field ahead of the final ball of the innings.

The experienced pacer had earlier delivered a fantastic spell of 1 for 22 off his 4 overs to keep the Qalandars on top at his end even as the rest of the bowling pack couldn't match up to his class.

Then on the last ball, even as left-arm spinner Ahsan Bhatti induced an outside edge against No.10 Mir Hamza, the Qalandars kept no slip on to take the catching opportunity and bring the game to a tie. The ball went to the ropes behind square and allowed Kings to propel home under great pressure.

The Kings would've been delighted to have bagged their second consecutive win of the tournament, having earlier defeated Peshawar Zalmi but even more jubilant knowing this was a thriller they managed to topple off the Qalandars in.

For the Qalandars, the defeat further took the sting off their claims of reaching the playoffs with a fourth loss on the bounce reducing the former champions to the bottom of the points table. The Karachi Kings are now third in the tournament standings with two victories and one loss in their kitty at this stage.
