Struggling Bangladesh and Sri Lankan teams will be squaring off on November 6 in match number 38 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup. The match, marking the eighth respective fixtures for both sides in the tournament, is a must-win one for them even though the two teams are already at the brink of a certain elimination from the semi-finals race.
While Bangladesh has already been deemed out of the competition, Sri Lanka still holds an outside chance of securing a top four finish. In addition, both teams will be vying to finish within the top eight sides of the competition in a bid to earn a qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
BAN vs SL: Team Previews
Bangladesh
Bangladesh, having trounced Afghanistan by six wickets in their tournament opener last month, went on to lose six of their subsequent matches in a row to become the first side to get eliminated from the semi-finals race. Bangladesh’s winless streak launched against England by coming up 137 runs short of the defending champions.
Shakib Al Hasan and co. also lost against New Zealand, India, South Africa, Pakistan and even Netherlands, each with demoralising margins to remain stranded on just two points from their first seven fixtures of the tournament.

A win over Sri Lanka in their penultimate match of the competition, and another win over Australia in their final outing will not only end their campaign on a high note, but will also change the complexion of the points table and help them secure a top eight finish for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, ravaged by numerous key injuries, including one to their captain Dasun Shanaka, coped three huge defeats in their three initial fixtures of the tournament. However, under interim skipper Kusal Mendis, the battered and bruised Sri Lankan unit regrouped to consign convincing defeats to Netherlands and defending champions England in successive games to chart their campaign back on course.
However, their newfound winning momentum was soon disrupted by a spirited Afghanistan unit, which was followed by a 302-run record World Cup drubbing at the hands of hosts India.

Still exercising an outside chance of securing a top four finish, Sri Lanka needs to win both their remaining two fixtures, against Bangladesh and New Zealand, and hope for certain other results to go their way.

BAN vs SL: Delhi Pitch Report
The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, generally known for offering much assistance to spinners, has become a batting paradise off late. Having staged four World Cup 2023 matches so far, the average first innings at the venue has turned out to be 345, in comparison to the 244 it holds for all ODI matches hosted here.
Considering the recent results, which saw teams batting first emerge victorious on three out of four occasions, the captain winning the toss will likely opt to put runs on the board upfront.
