To boost their playoff campaign, Lucknow Super Giants signed New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke. He came in as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav, who is suffering from a stiff back.
After RCB, GT, and PBKS qualified for the IPL 2025 season playoffs, LSG, DC, and MI are left in the race to grab the 4th and final spot.
Moreover, Lucknow faced a setback ahead of the tournament’s resumption as speedster Mayank Yadav went down with a back injury. After he got ruled out, LSG roped in William O’Rourke to fill the gap in their pace attack.
William O’Rourke IPL Price: How Much Did LSG Spend On Him?
Mayank Yadav, who was retained for INR 11 crore, has hardly played any games this season for LSG due to recurring injuries. Regardless, the management brought in William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for a relatively cheaper price.
O’Rourke has been signed for INR 3 crore, which is above the base price and more in line with mid-tier foreign pacers. That being said, the Kiwi pacer is a quality pacer who is often rated highly. In 10 Tests, he has 36 wickets, including 2 five-wicket-hauls.
Though he has no prior IPL experience, the tall Kiwi quick brings fresh energy to LSG’s bowling unit.
O’Rourke To Make IPL Debut In LSG-SRH Encounter
In a must-win clash for LSG, William O'Rourke will make his IPL debut and has replaced injured Mayank Yadav as SRH, led by Pat Cummins, opt to bowl first in Lucknow.
Travis Head misses out due to Covid-19. SRH, already out of playoff contention, handed a debut to Harsh Dubey in hopes of spoiling LSG’s campaign.
