Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler William O’Rourke has said that the team is fully focused on winning their last three league matches to keep their hopes of reaching the IPL 2025 playoffs alive. LSG are currently in 7th place on the points table with 10 points from 11 games.
LSG is going to play their last 3 matches with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
But they need to not only win all 3 matches but also at large margins to rectify their abysmal net run rate of -0.469. Regardless, new pacer O’Rourke is in high spirits.
William O’Rourke Optimistic Of LSG’s Playoff Chances
After GT’s win over DC last night, 3 playoff berths are confirmed for the IPL 2025 season. RCB, PBKS, and GT have booked their spots, meaning room is left for only one to advance.
Meanwhile, William O’Rourke, who joined LSG as a replacement for injured Mayank Yadav for INR 3 crore, said the team is aware of how tough the situation is. The road to the playoffs won’t be easy, and they will also have to hope that other results go their way. But O’Rourke believes the team is ready to fight till the end.
"Obviously, there's only so much that's in our control, but what we can do is focus on winning the next three games. We need to take responsibility for that, put in strong performances, and if we manage to sneak into the semifinals, that would be a great result,” William told reporters.
Talking about playing in Indian conditions, O’Rourke said it has been a new experience.
"Yeah, it’s obviously very different from back home. I think we tend to get greener, bouncier wickets there. I've played here a few times, including a couple of Test matches, which were definitely challenging—especially as a bowler. But at the same time, it’s exciting to experience different conditions and test my game against some of the best in the world,” he added.
LSG’s Qualification Scenario Explained
To qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, LSG must win all their remaining matches to reach 16 points. A single loss will eliminate them. They also need MI and DC to lose their remaining games, as MI already have a strong net run rate (+1.156) compared to LSG's -0.469. If MI win even once, LSG must heavily boost their NRR. Key results in other matches must also favour LSG to seal qualification.
