Yashasvi Jaiswal, the swashbuckling left-handed opener has not been included in India's first game of T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland. India have opted to open with Virat Kohli alongside Rohit Sharma, and the main reason for it is that India wanted to accommodate Shivam Dube in the middle order, who is a good spin-hitter and provides an extra option with the ball as well.

India have won the toss and have decided to bowl first on a pitch that is expected to assist bowlers. India are playing three seamers and two spinners - Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja with both the wrist spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal missing out.

Rishabh Pant will bat for India at number 3 while the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya form a formidable middle order.

The fact that the conditions will need the batters to apply themselves, makes the option of opening with Virat Kohli a good one as the man has all the experience to excel in difficult conditions and Rishabh Pant will provide the left-handed option in the top order in the absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
