In a significant development, Australia have left Mitchell Marsh out of their playing XI for the final One-Day International of the ongoing five-match series against England. Led by Marsh, Australia kicked off the series with two thumping wins before England bounced back remarkably to level the scoreline. However, as the visitors entered the final ODI, they suffered a massive setback, with their captain being ruled out of the game.

Steve Smith To Lead Australia In Marsh's Absence

In Mitchell Marsh's absence, Steve Smith is leading Australia in the fifth ODI against England at the Bristol County Ground. During the toss, Smith revealed that Marsh would miss the high-voltage clash, having developed soreness. Considering Marsh's ability to maul pace bowling, his absence could be a huge setback for the visitors in the all-important decider.

AUS Vs ENG 5th ODI Toss Update: Australia Opt To Bowl

Meanwhile, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first in the fifth ODI against England in Bristol. Marsh, Alex Carey, and Sean Abbott have been excluded, making room for Matthew Short, Aaron Hardie, and Cooper Connolly in Australia's playing XI.

During the toss, Australia's stand-in captain Steve Smith said,

"Mitch is a bit sore from the last game, no good today. Big game, 2-2; hopefully, we start well in a morning game with a few clouds around. Must-win games are what you play for. Big game today. Looking forward to it. Few changes. Mitch (Mitchell Marsh) is out. That is one. Alex Carey and Sean Abbott also miss out. Matthew Short comes in. Cooper Connolly makes his debut. Other one, I don't remember. Ah... Hardie is in (chuckles)."

On the other hand, England captain Harry Brook revealed that they would've bowled first as well, saying,

"We also wanted to bowl first. Because its overcast conditions and you want to make the most of it. Its a series decider. We have one change. Jofra Archer has been rested and Olly Stone has come back."
