Mohammad Yousuf has announced his resignation as the selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. On Sunday, September 29, the former Pakistan captain took to X and confirmed the same and cited personal reasons for his decision.
During his tenure, the Pakistan cricket team recently crashed to a first-round exit at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies earlier this year. The ‘Men in Green’ also lost their home Test series to Bangladesh by a 0-2 margin.
Mohammad Yousuf resigns due to personal reasons
Mere weeks prior to the launch of Pakistan’s home Test series against England, Mohammad Yousuf tendered his resignation as the national men’s team selector. Citing personal reasons for his decision to quit Pakistan cricket, Yousuf expressed his gratitude for serving and contributing to the growth of the national team.
The 50-year-old also extended his best wishes for the Pakistan team's upcoming endeavours.
Mohammad Yousuf, who played 90 Tests, 288 ODIs and three T20Is for Pakistan during his playing days, played a key role in shaping the national squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and the home Test series against Bangladesh.
Despite Pakistan’s first-round exit from the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retained Yousuf despite a major revamp in the Pakistan selection committee.
As of now, the Pakistan team is bracing itself to host England in a three-match Test series between October 7 and October 28. The matches will be played at Multan and Rawalpindi, and the fixtures will constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.
