In today’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 22, Gujarat Titans are playing against Lucknow Super Giants in what’s more than just a cricket game.
While GT currently sit at the top of the IPL 2025 table with 18 points and just two league matches left, they’ve decided to send out a powerful message off the field as well.
Why Is GT Wearing Lavender Jersey vs LSG?
Instead of their usual jersey, Gujarat Titans are wearing lavender-coloured kits today and here’s why: to raise awareness about cancer.
The team shared on social media, “Playing with purpose, Playing for a cause 💜... let’s unite in lavender as we support the cause for the fight 🎗”.
Lavender is a colour that represents all types of cancer awareness, and by wearing it, the Titans are showing support for those affected.
This is the third year in a row that Gujarat Titans are wearing lavender jerseys in a home game as part of this special initiative. Their goal is to remind fans about the importance of early detection and quality treatment for cancer patients.
Meanwhile, Colonel Arvinder Singh, COO of the franchise also shared his words, saying “This is the third consecutive year Gujarat Titans are batting for the cause of cancer awareness. We are glad to have our fans by our side who have shown consistent support in echoing the message for early diagnosis and pre-emptive care for cancer.”
Captain Shubman Gill Share Heartfelt Message
GT captain Shubman Gill also shared a heartfelt message, saying that as professional athletes, they have a platform to influence positive change.
“As athletes, we recognise the platform we have to influence change. Wearing these lavender jerseys is our way of showing solidarity with cancer warriors and honouring their resilience,” he said.
To make an even bigger impact, the team is handing out 30,000 lavender flags and 10,000 lavender jerseys to fans in the stadium. The goal is to turn the entire stadium into a sea of lavender to show support for cancer patients and survivors.
