The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 league stage is almost done and dusted and we have our 4 teams who have qualified for the playoffs. GT, RCB, MI and PBKS will battle it out for the IPL title and two of those teams - RCB and PBKS have a chance to win their maiden title.

Out of all the 4 teams, the Shubman Gill led Titans is the most consistent side with them heavily dependant on their formidable top-3 - Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. Buttler will miss the playoff due to national duty, but they are still a brilliant batting side and here's what the franchise needs to do to finish in top-2 of the points table.

Why finishing in top-2 is important?

For starters, finishing in top-2 gives the team two attempts to reach the finale. The top-2 sides will play in Qualifier 1, and the losing side gets another chance in Qualifier 2 to reach the finale. Hence, finishing in 1 or 2 in the table is of utmost importance.

How GT can finish in top-2

Scenario 1

GT wins remaining two matches: GT have two wins left and they are at 18 points, top of the table currently. If they win both the games, the side will reach 22 points and that should be enough to stay at the top-2. Then, the results of other matches won't affect their position.

Scenario 2

GT wins 1, lose 1: If GT wins 1 game, and lose 1 game, they will have a maximum of 20 points. MI have 16 points and have a solitary game remaining. Hence, they can maximum reach upto 18 points. However, PBKS and RCB have 17 points each, and have two games remaining. If both the sides win their remaining contests, GT will slip to number 3.

However, if either of PBKS or RCB fail to win both their games, then GT will stay in top-2.

Scenario 3

If GT lose both the games: If GT lose both the matches, then they will stay at 18 points. In that case, MI can also topple them if they win their next match with a big margin and GT lose both the matches by huge difference.

Similarly, even if RCB and PBKS win one of their 2 matches, they will have 19 points and will be the top-2 teams instead of GT.
