Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were spotted hugging each other adorably after winning the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 Test match against Australia at the Optus Stadium today. As was the mood across the Indian team and back home, Kohli and Sharma were also celebrating the team’s 10th Test win on Australian soil.
The exact incident happened when the team was returning back to the dressing room after defeating the home team by 295 runs – one of Australia’s biggest Test defeats at home.
Walking out down the stairs to welcome the triumphant players, Sharma not only hugged Kohli in a fan-made viral video but also had a word of appreciation for the 36-year-old player, who scored a 30th Test century in the second innings on Sunday.
Rohit Sharma practices in Perth today
Sharma, who missed the first Test due to a paternity leave, was spotted with the Indian team on the fourth day of the match in Perth today.
Initially sitting alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir in the pavilion, the right-handed batter underwent a net session with reserve bowlers bowling to him during the lunch break. Sharma, who will lead India in a two-day warm-up match in Canberra on November 30, will resume the leadership role from the second Test onward.
With more than a week remaining for the start of the second Test in Adelaide, Sharma has enough time to acclimatize to the conditions.
Currently on his fourth Test tour of Australia, Sharma has scored 87 runs at an average of 21.75 across four innings at the Adelaide Oval. As far as day-night Tests are concerned, it’ll be the first time when Sharma will be playing one outside India.
