That said, PBKS was also in the limelight due to the presence of glamorous owner Preity Zinta. Former Bollywood actress arrived in PBKS jersey on Day 2 and the crowd gathered at Jeddah to witness the auction proceedings were left mesmerised with her beauty. They were chanting her name and cheering for her to shower love on the popular IPL franchise owner.
IPL 2025 mega auction was historic as record money was spent by all 10 franchises. Rishabh Pant was the costliest pick in the history of IPL for INR 27 crores followed by Shreyas Iyer at INR 26.75 and Venkatesh Iyer at INR 23.75 crores.
Why did PBKS choose Iyer over Pant?
Punjab Kings went all in to buy Shreyas Iyer for a whooping price, thus rejecting Rishabh Pant, who went to LSG. One main factor behind this bold decision from PBKS is the presence of head coach Ricky Ponting.
When Ponting was mentoring DC, his partnership with Shreyas Iyer propelled the team to the finals of the IPL. However, after Pant took over, the results were underwhelming, resulting in the parting of both Ponting and Pant. Hence, the Australian legend trusts Iyer more than Pant, thus adding to PBKS’ interest in Shreyas Iyer.
