Tom Hartley dismissed Patidar [AP]
At a crucial juncture on Day 3 of the India vs England Rajkot Test, Rajat Patidar gifted his prized wicket away to Tom Hartley minutes before stumps.
India dominated on Day 3 of the Rajkot Test despite losing Ashwin to a family medical emergency. Regardless of the massive loss, the hosts backed themselves and bundled up the visitors with a 129-run lead in hand.
Yashasvi Jaiswal capitalized on the momentum and slammed a thumping century. However, with 104 runs added to his name, Jaiswal witnessed cramps in his back, and after fighting through it for a while, the opening batter chose to walk off with only ten overs left for the day.
Accordingly, Rajat Patidar walked out to bat as India chose against the idea of sending a night watchman. The move backfired as Patidar was dismissed on duck in a necessary shot.
English spinner Tom Hartley bowled a straight delivery outside the off-stump line. The delivery was ordinary, and Patidar could have tapped it. However, he chose to hit it over midwicket, but the room wasn't enough as his hands got cramped up.
The ball went straight to Rehan Ahmed at short mid-wicket, and Patidar's stay at the crease was short-lived due to a soft dismissal.
Rajat Patidar stood at the crease for a while as he was in complete disbelief. Even the bowler, Hartley, had a wary smile on his face as he couldn't believe his luck.
With that, India were two down, and night watchman Kuldeep Yadav was summoned to face the final five overs of Day 3's play.
That being said, India are quite comfortable in this game as they managed to set up a 300+ run lead in the second innings.
