Just In: Ravi Ashwin Not To Participate In 3rd Test Due To Family Emergency

Ravi Ashwin won't be participating in the ongoing Test match against England. It comes as a shocker for Team India as the veteran spinner - who completed his 500th Test wicket earlier on Friday - will not be available in the Rajkot Test match due to a family medical emergency.

After the unfortunate case, India will play the match with just ten players in the remaining three days of the Test match.

"In these challenging times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team fully supports Ashwin," BCCI said via a press release.

"The BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the players and their loved ones are of utmost importance. The Board requests respect for the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they navigate through this challenging time," the release added.

Earlier in the day, Ashwin played a brilliant hand with the bat, building a crucial 77-run partnership with debutant Dhruv Jurel to help the hosts surpass 400 runs

After Rohit Sharma & co. got bowled out for 445, the veteran off-spinner broke an unassailable-looking opening stand by removing Zak Crawley in his second over. However, Ashwin couldn't take any further wickets as he ended the day with figures of 1/37 in seven overs.

For England, who scored their 207 runs at around 6 RPO - Ben Duckett led the charge with his blistering century. Having said that, Team India is still 238 runs ahead in the game, but Ashwin's services will be missed on a comparatively flatter pitch.

"The Board and the team will continue to provide any necessary assistance to Ashwin and will keep the lines of communication open to offer support as needed. Team India appreciates the understanding and empathy of the fans and media during this sensitive period," the press release concluded.
