In spite of his reputation as one of the most powerful hitters in modern-day cricket, Tim David has often failed to live up to his lofty expectations. Nevertheless, the Australian all-rounder was the hero of their first T20I against New Zealand at Sky Stadium, Wellington, on Wednesday night.

Chasing a gigantic 216, Australia required 16 runs off the final over, with Tim Southee taking the ball with the aim of doing the job for New Zealand. However, the Kiwi Test skipper failed to get the job done, with the equation reducing to a four off final delivery.

Southee then bowled a full delivery in the middle, and David whipped it through the cow corner. Placed at deep mid-wicket, Phillips ran like a wizard before pulling off an outrageous dive, only to see the ball going under his hand for four runs.

While David was celebrating the winning hit along with captain Mitchell Marsh, Phillips kept himself on the ground while hiding his face in disappointment.

Leading by 1-0, Australia and New Zealand will next take on each other on Friday (February 23) at Eden Park, Auckland.
