As it has been in the last few seasons, the Indian Premier League opens with the two finalists of last season.

Thus, on March 22, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, and Gujarat Titans, the runners-up, will face off to kick off the proceedings of the upcoming edition, as confirmed by Indian Express.

Early March is anticipated to see the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates. It is not, however, the first time that the league and general elections have coincided. Fortunately, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed to Indian Express that the tournament will only happen in India only.

"It won’t happen overseas. That is why we are waiting for Lok Sabha election dates, so that we can plan the venues accordingly," Dhumal said.

CSK and Gujarat Titans kicked things off in the IPL 2023 as well. However, the situation was completely different that time around, as Hardik Pandya was at the helm for the Titans at that point. This time, Shubman Gill will wear the captain’s hat, while MS Dhoni, the immortal, will keep on leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Since the T20 World Cup begins on June 1, it is expected that the IPL will wrap up by the end of May at the latest. However, the final dates are yet to be determined.
