Bangladesh's experienced top-order batter Soumya Sarkar had a memorable outing on Friday, as he amassed a scintillating fifty in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Chattogram. Opening the batting for Bangladesh, Sarkar provided his side with a solid foundation before getting out to Wanindu Hasaranga in the middle overs.
The stylish southpaw struck eleven glorious boundaries and a solitary six to compile a breezy 66-ball 68 in the high-voltage clash. However, one of his shots that grabbed the most attention was a picturesque uppercut for a six off Lahiru Kumara.
The incident occurred in the 21st over when the Tigers were going strong following the early departure of Litton Das and the in-form Najmul Hossain Shanto. After keeping things tight in the first three balls, Kumara bowled a short delivery to surprise Sarkar.
However, the move backfired on the Lankan speedster, as Sarkar played a magnificent uppercut shot, with the ball sailing over the third-man fence for a six.
Thus, the stylish southpaw reminded fans of legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, who played the shot more often than not in the latter half of his career.
Regarding the game, Mahmudullah became Hasaranga's second victim soon after the latter got rid of Sarkar. As of writing, the hosts are 160 for four, with Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim batting on 32* and 15*, respectively.
